A New Local Area Plan For Wexford Town
Wexford County Council is preparing a new Local Area Plan for Wexford Town. This plan will set out the spatial planning strategy for the town to ensure the town can grow, support employment and homes and can do so sustainably and successfully.
We want to hear your views on how the town should develop and what the new plan should include. We want to hear what is important to you. We particularly want to hear from children and young people and those with specific needs. Achieving the consensus and support of all of those with an interest in the town’s future is critical to making a successful plan which has a shared vision for the future of our town and a plan which people want to see implemented.
This initial public consultation stage, which will run from Thursday, 8th June 2023 to Tuesday, 8th August 2023, represents the pre-draft stage before the Draft Local Area Plan is prepared.
Consultation Paper
A Consultation Paper has been prepared to help inform written submissions and observations. It set outs:
Why we are preparing the new Local Area Plan,
The process for preparing the new Local Area Plan,
Key strategic issues and questions for you to consider; and
How you can inform and contribute to the preparation of the plan.
The Consultation Paper is available to view at the following locations:
Wexford County Council’s Online Consultation Portal
Wexford Town Library, Mallin St, Wexford Town, Y35 AY20 during normal opening hours:
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10:30am to 5:30pm.
Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:30am to 9:00pm.
Note: the library is closed on the Saturdays and Mondays of Bank Holiday weekends.
Planning Department, Block B, County Hall, Carricklawn, Wexford Town, Y35 WY93 during normal opening hours:
Monday to Friday 9:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

You can make a written submission or observation on the new Wexford Town Local Area Plan between Thursday, 8th June 2023 andTuesday, 8th August 2023. Written submissions and observations must be received no later than 4:00pm on Tuesday, 8th August 2023. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Written submissions and observations can be submitted in one of the following ways:
Online via Wexford County Council’s Consultation Portal
By post/hard copy to Wexford Town Local Area Plan, Planning Department, Block B, County Hall, Carricklawn, Wexford Town, Y35 WY93.
Important points to remember when making your written submission or observation:
Make your written submission or observation in one medium only – online, by email or by post/hard copy.
Include your name and contact details, a map (where appropriate), and where relevant, details of any organisation, community group or company which you represent (see Data Protection section below).
In your submission or observation please confirm whether you consent to:
your name being published alongside your submission or observation on the Council’s online consultation portal and website.
your name being included and published in any reports submitted to the Elected Members of Wexford County Council for their consideration in developing the LAP. (see Data Protection below)

Your written submission or observation should relate to the planning and development of Wexford Town only.
No changes can be made to the content of the Wexford County Development Plan 2022 - 2028 or the Record of Protected Structures through the Local Area Plan process.
Written submissions and observations received by 4:00pm on Tuesday, 8th August 2023 will be taken into consideration by Wexford County Council during the preparation of the Draft Local Area Plan.
Data Protection
We will publish submissions and observations received on Wexford County Council’s online consultation portal and website. We would like to publish the names of people who make submissions and observations with their submissions and observations. A report summarising the written submissions and observations received (via the methods mentioned above) will be prepared for the Elected Members of Wexford County Council for their consideration in developing the Local Area Plan and we would like to include and publish your name in this report. The report will be published on the Council’s website and online consultation portal. The report will also be produced and available for inspection in hard copy. Your name will only be used for these purposes if you consent.
Your contact details will not be published on the online consultation portal, website or in any report.
The personal information (data) collected during the consultation process (which may include the collection of sensitive personal data) is collected for the purpose of receiving and dealing with submissions and observations on the Wexford Town Local Area Plan and any data collected is subject to Wexford County Council’s privacy statements. You are also invited to attend one of our Local Area Plan drop-in public consultation events which will be held in Wexford Town Library, Mallin St, Wexford Town,Y35 AY20 on:

Thursday, 13th July 2023 from 5.00pm to 8.00pm
The Local Area Plan team will be available to meet with you to discuss your views on Wexford Town and how it should develop. What’s next?
Once this initial public consultation stage is finished, a report will be prepared summarising the written submissions and observations received and the report will be submitted to the Elected Members of Wexford County Council for their consideration during the preparation of the Draft Wexford Town Local Area Plan.
